Kayaking

Last Friday we went on a happy hour paddle with Bent River Outfitter. It was a great time. We met at their shop and they drove us and kayak up the Blue Earth River a little and we paddled back down to Riverfront Park. There was a good turnout of people. Bent River Outfitter does the happy hour paddle every other Friday, but you can rent a kayak from them anytime. They also have guides. I think Lucy and I will be doing much more kayaking this summer. She said she wants to take a longer trip and camp on a sandbar along the way.

Weird Face Wednesday

Lucy and I went out to dinner. It was after a long day of kayaking, sun and fun. I asked her to make a weird face and this is what we got.

The rose was from a rosebush we passed on the way to dinner.

Camping, friends and fairies.

Lucy and I had a great weekend. We did a lot and she was still able to spend time and sleep in with her mommy on Mother's Day.

On Friday, we went camping with friends. The weather was perfect and we had a lot of fun, except for the dogs. Lucy was very scared of all the dogs that were running around. They were puppies, so when Lucy ran, they chased her. I gave her a stick and said to just hit them with it if they bothered you.

Lucy and her friend Hazel.

This picture was at 2 am when daddy went to sleep. They woke up giggling at 6:30 am.
Daddy got up too and we made coffee and pancakes.

On Saturday, we went to the Minnesota Fairy Festival. It was a lot of fun. There were fairies from all over and Lucy....errrr....sorry, Izzy the Spring Time Grassland Fairy, as she called her, got in on the action.

We had learned about the festival from Jewel the Water Faerie who Lucy met at The Renaissance Festival.

Jewel teaching little fairies how to blow bubbles with their hands.

Funny Friday

I decided to upload funny pictures from this week. With Lucy and Daddy together there are a lot of them.

Yes, that is a dog peeing on a truck.
He is not real. This was at Busters for a classic car roll-in. We took the truck (I will post on that later).

"Lucy, make a funny face." During morning coffee.

Ruhha Roww. Lucy was eating Scooby snacks.

Wish I got a better pic of the double rainbow over the fairy garden.

Fairy Garden

Lucy and I were at a garden store looking for herbs for the window. We stumbled on something super cool. A fairy garden. Both of us could not stop looking at it and for the next few days we talked about how we would make one. I was going to make my own planter box, because we wanted something BIG, but we ended up finding a great pot that will work for our "first" one. So, here is what we did. Think of it as a doll house for fairies.

Get a pot. The size only depends how big you want to make it, but just be sure it is deep enough to plant in. This one is way too deep, so we added some filler to the bottom for drainage. Lucy is shown for scale.:)
We used packing peanuts for filler. Be sure to use the ones that do not dissolve when wet.
Put a layer of dirt on top. This is about 8" deep at least.

Head to your local craft store and you can find some great fairy houses/bird houses and supplies. The imagination is limitless.

We spray painted the houses we got and will plan to cover them with moss and decorations the next time Lucy is over.

The moss is not alive, but the plants are.

No fairies yet, but a gnome showed up. The key is to leave the window open, so the fairies can fly in.

He helped plant.

That's weird. Who put the New Belgium beer cap in there?

Restaurant Review: Grizzly's Mankato

Lucy and I love Grizzly's in Mankato. The food is wood grilled so it has an awesome flavor to it. Great place for kids. They have popcorn and peanuts to keep the kids busy while you wait. Service is awesome. The best though, they have smores. They bring a little fire to your table and you have to make your own. Of course, Lucy loves it.

Swimming

Lucy had her last swimming lesson last week. She is becoming such a fish. It is the one thing she has no fear of. I think I will try to sign her up for more lessons this summer. We can't wait for the lake to warm up at Grammy and Papa's place.
